Slaves of Allah! An integral part of the aqidah of the people of the sunnah is the belief in the ordination and predestination of all things by Allah Most High. And that whatever Allah wills to be is and that whatever He does not will can never be and that WHATEVER happens or does not happen in all creation is by His predestination and decree. Belief in predestination and decree is a PILLAR of faith as mentioned by Jibreel himself when he said in response to the request of the Prophet (sas): "Inform us about faith."  To which Jibreel replied:

Dear Muslim! To truly believe in this pillar of faith, one must believe that Allah knew everything before its existence, before its occurrence and that His knowledge encompasses all things.

Allah knew all things and WROTE them - i.e., recorded this knowledge before creating any of His creation by 50,000 years.

Adam reminded Musa that his disobedience of Allah was written by Allah 40,000 years before he was created.

The first thing Allah created was the pen to which He said, "Write!"  It said, "What should I write?" Then EVERYTHING was written from the beginning of creation until Qiyama.

Verily, Allah willed all things and all events. He CREATED them and willed that they would be. There is NOTHING - thing, action or event - in Allah's creation but that He willed it to be so and there is nothing in His creation which He did not will to be so. The salaf used to say:

Dear Muslims! Everything that happens in the universe is by the predestination and decree of Allah. His is the ultimate wisdom in all conditions. His decree is perfect and absolute. There is no whim, jest or falsehood therein.

So, the true aqidah of a Muslim is to believe that everything that occurs is by a great and perfect wisdom - some of which he can understand and much of which is beyond his capability to understand. But a Muslim is upon CERTAINTY that everything that happens flows from the Wisdom of the Perfect and Almighty Lord whose wisdom is beyond the possibility of being questioned.

As for the true believer, whenever is fate consists of that which pleases him such as belief, piety, success in doing good and victory over his enemies, he is GRATEFUL to Allah for His favors. He seeks strength in whatever Allah has given him to do MORE of that which pleases Allah his Lord and brings him closer to Allah. By speaking well, acting well and striving for all manner of good deeds - not just words on his tongue - his gratitude is manifested and its reality made clear. If, on the other hand, calamity befalls him in his person, his family or this Ummah as a whole, he has a firm standing with the decree of Allah.

First, he knows that whatever has happened is nothing but a trial and a test.

These trials IDENTIFY those closest to Allah and separate them from those weak in faith and they also are an expiation for sins and misdeeds.

They may also be a punishment and a manifestation of Allah's anger and displeasure due to obligations which have been neglected or other transgressions against Allah's shari'a.

So, the believer searches himself for transgressions and shortcomings which may have been hidden from him in full knowledge that Allah is the MOST Just of those who do justice.

And so he knows for certain that whatever has befallen him is from some sin which he has committed.

Knowing it from our own deeds and "what our hands have wrought", pushes the believer to repentance to Allah and a hasty return to the truth and to the guidance. When a Muslim understands this, he rectified himself, rectifies what is between him and Allah, rectifies what is between him and his fellow Muslims and leads his family and children to all good and calls them to guidance and a way that is straight.

Secondly, the people of iman when confronted with difficulties and trials for the Ummah take therefrom lessons and signs. And so harsh events and difficulties become for them a cause for awakening of their souls from their sleep and remind them of their Lord so they can return to Him and to obedience to Him. This is the state of the Muslim in all situations - no matter how painful - always seeing the signs and taking the lessons from all that occurs. And so is iman is ever-growing and his obedience and certainty of belief and taqwa increased. He does not become unmindful such that trials and signs pass right before him but he fails to understand their lesson.  Allah condemned the disbelievers for this very thing:

Third, trials only increase the people of iman in their strength and their holding fast to this deen. Events do not sway them even if their enemies were to gain control over them. Rather, it increases them in faith, certainty and obedience.

They know that the enemies arrayed against Islam - human and Jinn - seek to put fear in their hearts and break their will, and knowing this strengthens the believer to prevent it.

The people of iman know - from the clear proofs of the Qur'an and the Sunnah - that victory is for the people of Islam and the best end is for the people of taqwa.

When true iman is found, for its people are power in the land for good, aid from Allah and victory.

Fourthly, the Muslim knows that whatever he has suffered at the hands of his oppressor, that oppressor has a share in that pain but no share in that for which the Muslim hopes from Allah.

Fifthly, a believer in times of trials seeks closeness to Allah and Allah's pleasure with him. So, he exerts himself in good deeds, charity and kindness for sadaqa is something by which Allah repels trials and ends His tests. By good deeds towards Allah's slaves and mercy toward them, Allah increases his Mercy over His slaves.

The people of iman in times of trials turn to Allah and humble themselves before Him. Along with seeking every practical means to end the oppression and come to the aid of this Ummah, they first and foremost turn to Allah in fervent du'a by night and by day. Wheneverr calamity befalls the Muslims and they turn to their Lord and seek refuge in Him, they will surely find Allah oft-forgiving, most-merciful. Just look at Allah's messengers when some trial befell them.

The uniting of the ranks of this Ummah and the strength of us coming together for our reform and our safety will by by the grace of Allah. And, these trials and tribulations will be removed from our necks by Allah in his generosity and His mercy. What is upon us is to hold fast to our deen and to the jama'a, and to trust in our Islam and its true and perfect teachings. We must be on the straight and just path.

Slaves of Allah! The OBLIGATION of each and every Muslim toward all other Muslims is cooperation, mutual support, constructive action and standing together as a single hand in the face of whatever befalls them. They are the Muslim Ummah, the Ummah of Muhammad (sas) and there is no dignity in that unless there is coming together, cooperation and working together for the sake of

Allah.

So many trials have befallen this Ummah before this but this deen is still here and still strong al-hamdu lillahi. It survived the Crudades.  It survived the Tatar. But the deen of this Ummah remains, fortified by the aid of Allah.

Our deen is the one which will bring about the aid of Allah and the victory - just as soon as we stand firm for it the best we can.

But ONLY with enjoining upon one another the truth, advising one another with patience, cooperating for the cause of truth and UNITING upon the aqidah of Allah's Messenger and his Companions. This and only this is what will fortify this Ummah for the challenges which fact it on all levels. We must know that Allah is the Most Just, the Most Generous and the Most Merciful. So let us turn to Him and seek refuge in Him at all times, alway and forever. Let us turn only to him with our grief and our pain trusting in Allah and in his aid promised to his slaves. And we must seek all beneficial MEANS at the same time with which to accomplish our goals and glorify Allah's name on this planet by His permission. And we must stay away from all rumour, idle talk or differences which contribute nothing to the good of this Ummah.
