Was Mohammad really a true Prophet ??

Assalaamu alaykum Brothers and Sisters,

I want to see if we can tackle this question using the only human approach we know of.

The subject or more appropriately the question is Mohammad (saw) a true prophet or not? That's the question. Let me make it very clear that this question is not directed to the Muslims, because we know for certain that he was not only a prophet but he was also the Seal of the Prophets and also the best of humanity. But as Muslims we need to be able to answer this question clearly without using the Quran or Hadith when we engage in a dialogue with others. The reason I say not to use those sources is because most of the people you are going to answer this question to do not believe in the them, so it would not make any sense to use it directly. You can still use them indirectly.

Now if you study history and see how far humans have progressed in terms of knowledge in science and see all of the advancement in technology that were made and ask yourself "How did we get this far?", you will immediately give credit to the human intellect. You will see how humans are really amazing creatures. But if you dig deeper and analyze further how we really did get this far, it all boils down to one thing : the Human Common Sense. Every discovery, I mean every discovery in science was based on pure common sense. If A does not work lets try B. And if B does not work lets C. And so on and so forth . No more, no less. This method has never changed from the dawn of human beginning. That's the only way we as humans know how to answer any question.

Now unless you are a prophet and Allah sends you revelations, we can only understand things through our common sense. That's one thing Allah has given to all humans. Sadly we do not use much of it because our emotion gets in our way most of the time.

Now let’s try to answer the question posed using common sense. No emotions attached. I am going to list few points now and will give you some more as we go on. I would also like for others to participate by adding points they know of. Now remember this is just common sense approach and not a direct quote from the Quran or Hadith.

Point #1: It is very clear that Mohammad (saw) did not have any desire for material wealth and fame. At age 40 he pretty much had both to some extent and then all of sudden he was ready to sacrifice everything he had including his life and the lives of his family who were dear to him just so that he could convey a message!!!! As time went and the confrontation with his adversaries became more and more he was offered kingship so that he would stop what he was doing but immediately refused it. When he died at 63 he did not have a dirham (penny) to his name. Left all his wives behind poor. Common sense tells me no normal human being would do something like for a short time, let alone for 23yrs.

Point #2: From the beginning the message Mohammad (saw) was conveying and his teachings in various matters were all good and they stayed like that till the end of his life. He was consistent all through. He would never say this today and at a later time come and say something different. Can you image trying to do that for 23hrs? Common sense tells me he had to be more than a normal human being.

Point #3: Like all other Prophets, Mohammad (saw) made enemies immediately when he started conveying Allah's message. The Prophets of Allah will always come with a very clear and direct message that those who run the show at the time will never want to hear, because it would challenge their status. What's unique with Mohammad (saw) though, he made multiple enemies all at the same time. And these were no small enemies. His people the idol-worshipers who did not want to change the status quo, the Jews who did not like to see a prophet who did not come from amongst themselves and the two Super Powers at the time, the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire. With idol-worshipers he told them their Gods were worthless, with Jews he told them they have thrown the book (Torah) behind their backs and were not following it and on top of that they have corrupted it, with the Christians he told them that they went astray for calling Jesus (as) as God or Son of God. Not only did he go against them but he was bold enough to have predicted victories against all of his enemies. And by Allah he was victorious against every one of them. Common sense tells me no normal human being can be that bold especially when you and your followers are so few in numbers.

Point #4: Mohammad (saw) did not live with Jews or the Christians to say he could have established animosity towards them. If he was not a true prophet and since he was not looking for material wealth and power, why did he not just cut a deal with them and say, "Hey guys, I am just a prophet to my people. Let's just leave each other alone. Keep yours and I keep mine." Especially at the time when he was weak. And with that he would not have verses in the Quran that criticize both of them and their beliefs. But he confronted them just as he confronted the idol-worshipers. And if he did have animosity towards them, why would he give Mary (as) a Jew, the mother of Jesus (as) the title of The Most Noblest Woman of all Mankind. And not to his beloved wife Khadijah (ra) or his daughter that he loved so much Fatimah (ra) or his other wife Aishah (ra). The Quran has a whole chapter dedicated to Mary. And he also defended and praised Jesus (as) and all the other prophets that came before him. Why did he have to go way out of his way to do all of that at the same time being very critical to the Jews and the Christians? All of this does not make sense, unless he was commanded by Allah (swt).

Point #5: How could some one who did not know how to read and write and even if he did, it won't matter, from the beginning of his prophet hood came up with the idea that the whole Quran which took 23 yr. to be reveled had to be memorized. And on top of that also had the boldness to say this book will be protected from corruption till the end of time. How could a human make such statement and guarantee it? If anyone truly thinks very deeply and ponder about just this one point, without shadow of a doubt, you would say, "There is no God worthy of worship but Allah, and Mohammad (saw) was His Messenger." Common sense tells me only Allah (swt) can guarantee such thing. 1400yrs later, no one dare to change a dot in the Quran. It is the ONLY book on earth that can be re-written to its exact original form if ALL the books and all the printed material were completely destroyed. And this could have been done through all the generations after the Quran was revealed.
